Just purchased Manual VX Landcruiser. Gearbox was fine, synchros where working well. I changed oil and now it is stiff when cold.
What brand and type of oil do you recommend?

what type of Gbox do you run that in?
if you want better cold shifting then get an oil that is actually for the job.
Castrol VMX80 cold shift is the one to go for.
If you already know everything, DON'T ask bloody questions!!

castrol syntrax is also pretty good but abit expensive

I run redline lightweight shock proof oil in mine. Brilliant product!

MT-90 75W90 GL-4 redline in a Manuel gear box

The redline product tu's is talking about is apparently the ducks nuts of oil. I would be running it if I could afford it. Its shockproof qualities will help make your gearbox last longer.

hell yea thats a nice lube as well, not the kind of stuff your local Ripco stocks though?
the VMX80 is everywhere and not expensive. and its a good oil for the H151 80 seriesGbox which has notorious cold shift problems if you put and 75/90 in it

Thanks guys, this information is just brilliant. Keep this up and I might start to know what I am doing.
I might just visit BNT and see what damage it will do me. It's not as if I change the gearbox oil everyday.

Re: Best oil for Gearbox VX Landcruiser 96
I changed to the Redline Lightweight Shockproof oil a while ago in a HZJ73 Landcruiser with H55F gearbox. Absolutely brilliant - a lot quieter, smooth shifting when cold, truck just seemed smoother also, but thats probably my imagination! Only downside is cost - BNT charge around $33 for a 1 quart bottle (approx 0.95 litre). Not sure what the bigger containers cost. As you say though not something you do every day - I believe it was worth it. Cheers.
