No comparison, Go the 3.0ltr turbo. If you want a wee bit more look for a 3.0ltr turbo intercooled. (On some surfs from 1996).
Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!

I'm looking for a d/cab not a surf . I've not seen any 3.0 turbo's in my price range the ute I've got my eye on is a 99 3.0 d/cab but I've also seen a couple of 2.8 d/cabs with low K's that I like the look of.

in my 88 LN65 (factory 2.4) i put a 2.8 in her, she goes really great with 31's on the 4.3 diff's, all comes down to the gear ratio the vehicle has in it, as it is the 2.8 are over engineered which was why they were sought after, it's hard to break them if they are maintained properly, where as the 2.4's did not have enough thought put in to them with their weak heads, i know a few guy's that have the 5l (3ltr) motors and they all have wanted the 2.8's back, but i guess it is preference really.

Cheers

My 91 Surf came with the 2.8 (3L motor). I fitted the turbo from a 2.4 Surf motor and I love it!
