70 series 6x6 camper?

Post by crazydragon »

Has anyone seen this truck around NZ? I remember seeing one on TradeMe like 3-4 years ago. Tried looking for some pictures on the internet but couldn't find it.

Has anyone had pictures of this truck?

heaps in aussie, industries popped up over there that specialize in converting patrols, hilux. land crusiers, land rovers, to 6x6.

I have looked under one in the flesh and all it is is an extended chassis with either leaf or coil suspension, an extra transfer case plonked onto the rear of the gear box that is mounted high giving two rear outputs and to give the drive shaft good clearance over the original axle then down to the rearmost axle.

Using off set diffs the middle axles diff housing sits to the drivers side and the rear axles diff sits to the passengers side.

I am guessing here but I'd say it was done this way to give good axle articulation, as i would have thought a through put shaft on the front diff to the rear connected by a short drive shaft would have been more efficient, but lacking movement creating acute angles on the UJ's.

I am picking it is the same company who do the 6x6 Defender conversions for the Australian SAS Regiment?

Wicked looking vehicles.

Carmichael in the UK did same conversions to the two door Range Rovers for the RAF as crash fire tenders. NZ Fire Service had one for a while in Wellington...

Not much help sorry...

Yeah Scotty I think that might be the one. I'm sure it was a camper cause it had the bed, sinks and what not.. I wonder what happened to it. Seems like no one's seen it on the road before..

there is a twin axle landrover ute down here in gore, but i dont know if it is 6x6 or 4x4 with a lazy axle behind it.

none the less it still looks cool, tows a swivel trailer behind it sometimes.
