Gidday

Post by Seaths Surf »

Just bought a 1994 3L turbo diesel, Automatic, 165000 k'ms (and yes i reckon they are ligit). Stock and standard. Japan import
Just done some maintenance to it, new torsion bracket, idle arm, some cheap event 4*4 tires, radiator cleaned out redone, new top tank, new fronts pads, tightened back brakes, every thing else looks alright, the guy who did my warrant said there was a very! small movement in my wishbone bush full pass otherwise,(i had originally gone to a place next to the uni Auto friend i think its called and he tried to rip me off said that both bottom ball joints had too much slack, so i got some parts and went to replace them and the old ones had no slack!). CV boot has split(when i bought it) not sure how long its been like that though so not going to replace until i do the CV,(does this mean i should not go off road with the split?).
In chch for uni so not looking at any thing extensive, but keen to do a few tracks, would really like to know what the essentials are before doing anything, my brother mentioned a trans cooler to my dad but have not spoken to him about it yet, hes in Aus and i hear its not so necessary here. Looking to put tow bar on for practicality but i would also need a rear tow link for people to help me out correct? What are the essentials needed? protective plates for the bottom needed, every thing looks well covered?Want to give it a wee test where do you recommend?

My Surf has the front CV boot split (since before i bought it), Its not a Woffable item (Ive been told), so i`m not gonna replace it untill i get around to replacing the stub axle as I have spares.

You didnt actually mention what sort of truck it was? Assuming a Surf.

Minimum for going out I would say is decent tow hooks mounted correctly, and some snatch straps and a First Aid kit.
To Boon or not to Boon.

its cheaper to replace the cv boot than a cv if the boots split all the grease will leak out and sand dirt and water will get into it and guess what that does to it :(
