Hi ive just brought myself an ex railways 98 coily samurai. I currently have a 413 as an offroad only vehicle (winch lockers all round etc) and thought this coily could be made into more of a weekend driver. Unfortunately I dont know much about the coilys and am unsure what bits can be put into the front diff. Its obviously high pinion and from my understanding all the drivetrain is different ratio to the older leaf models. But how much have things changed can i still throw a lockrite in the front or rear and are wheelbearings kingpin bearings etc all the same? unfortunately i havent found a coil manual download yet. I would really appreciate any info
cheers
Dave
98 coil samurai questions
Re: 98 coil samurai questions
Lockrite will fit in the rear, no locker option for the front. Front hubs/wheelbearings are the same as Vitara/Escudo, but everything else is the same as the leafsprung models.
Re: 98 coil samurai questions
Rear suspension arms are weak and don't handle bigger tyres or more torque. Ride is better than leaf sprung. Gearing is generally higher than earlier models, easiest fix is lower t-case gearing.

Re: 98 coil samurai questions
thanks for that after spending a while on google and availability of parts I came to the conclusion i will not be parting with my leaf 413 locked all round its gonna be hard to beat. bit of a shame really guess one could always swap complete diffs housings and all off an older samurai just a lot of setup and welding
