How longs a piece of string ..........??
It comes down to what you have to do to the engine, what you want to do and what you can afford to do.

You're looking at at least a power level of 9000 for some sweet Holden Environmental Gain action. I'd recommendatory a blonde Swiss or two and a sense of adventure.

yup.
theyr cheap, but they suffer from a weak bottom end.
find a vr or later motor, pull the sump off and chuck in a new set of big ends and mains and youll be good for a long time,as long as your not pulling big revs on excessive angles.
just remember if your going manual that the early vn/vp motors have different cranks, theres the early 6 bolt flywheels thatll only fit the early manual cranks...and the later 8 bolt flywheel thatll fit the rest(even the auto cranks).
for what it cost to buy the next motor you couldve chucked in some new bearings...maybe even a set of rings and give the bores a light tickle up.
you could go all out with a stockcar spec 248cu over size, and a high lift cam...
