Hey guys & gals!
Based in Palmerston North - no 4x4 yet, but I'm trying to decide between a Landcruiser (80 series) or the later model Prado.
No intention of finding deep mud puddles, but something I can take hunting/camping with some comfort and reliability.
And security of being able to get out of minor trouble!
Will be joining the Manawatu 4x4 club, and winch/radio/front bars are first on the shopping list.
Is there any reason to chose the 4.2TD over the 3.0TD in these trucks?
Budget seems to be sitting around $8k-$10k, and I won't be towing much.
Merry Christmas to ya'll, hope Santa brings you some mud!
Yet another newbie!

Welcome to ORE
I'm slightly biased, but I would say go the 80 series... Plenty of room, comfortable, great for long trips, powerful (I would take the 4.2 turbo over the 3 litre one anyday - so much more torque) and very capable off road. Depending on how serious you want to get (and it will happen if you join a club, its contagious lol) you should be able to find one with factory front and rear lockers. If you do decide to go down that road - there are a few little known issues with them, sing out - and there will be lots of people on here that'll tell you what they are, and what to look out for!
Good luck
Jay
