1995 Terrano factory amp not where it 'should' be.... help!

Post by danielbeek »

Hi,
So I've got a 1995 facelift WD21 Terrano (curvy dash, etc.), which has the six speaker setup - two front doors, two roof mounted, and two roof tweeters.
I have the full manual for the LHD Pathfinder - up to 1993 - but the indicated amp locations don't seem to match my truck. The six speaker setup should have one amp only, to run the rear speakers.
In the left side rear quarter panel I have a glow plug controller, a 'Zexel' ECU(? - wtf, it's a TD27T), and another tiny relay module of sorts.
The right rear guard (Passenger side for US Pathys, where amp should be) has nothing in it. Theres one very small module (relays I suspect), hidden right at the back, but I'm certain it's not an amp. Also theres a couple of unutilized plugs around where amps 'should' be, but no evidence that anything has ever been removed. I have a 4x50w mosfet head unit, and the rears distort/clip very early compared to fronts. No way are they running off the head unit. btw, all the speakers are matching top-notch JBL 5x7" (which needed hacking to fit, factory speakers actually 4x6! (Pioneer dual-cone, yuck)).
So where is the elusive rear speaker amplifier?

Zexel is the electronics company contracted to nissan for ecu and relay components. they are a major player in japan even have there own race team.
