2007 Grand Vitara 1.9 diesel

Post by Hayley05 »

Hi, my question don't really relate to off roading as such, but thought is ask on here anyway. So we are moving from the north to south island soon (ruraly) and we have an xr6, don't think it will handle to gravel road i have to travel almost daily and the snow we will get in winter, we also want something that can tow our 1977 15ft caravan. So the 5 door vitara diesel..good vehicle? i have read there can be issues with the diesel particluate filter?? as the vitara we are looking at has done alot of city driving, not sure if that could be a problem? So yeah and advice would be great..cheers

The new generation diesel engines are supposed to be awesome, diesels always need to be meticulously maintained anyway. Wish I had the dosh for a nice 07 TD Vitara.

As for driving it on dirt/metal roads, whatever you drive will end up with busted headlights, chipped/cracked windscreens and lots and lots of mud / dirt stuck to the bottom. Deal with the flying stones with guards on the headlights / bonnet and make sure you get it up on ramps at least once a month or so and wash the bottom.

Other than that it would be an awesome car for the rural lifestyle.

Correction: Lots of good stuff around about the Peugeot engine from the older generation Vitaras, seems to be a few people having issues with the Renault engine in the latest generation.

Which years did they run the pug engine?
Kinda keen on one for the Mrs to replace her Mirage that's getting some miles on it, and want something that's got a bit more balls/more practical. Either something like this or a pug diesel hatch is on the cards methinks.

Are the DPF ones easy to bypass or are they like the Toyota Hiace burner type ones?

I've had a quick look online and it looks like their are solutions where you download some DPF free firmware to the ECU and replace the DPF with some form of pipe or tube.

I cant say about snow, but our BA XR6 drives lovely on gravel, no issues even towing on gravel.
