Never work underneath a car with only one form of support

I know i know.. that if you have all 4 wheel on ur 4wd you'll crawl out of it no probs(for the skinny ones) I do my oil changes on the ute without having to use a jack.

Just a reminder that siccsor jacks a limp as feck by themselves. Sad to think a set of $40 jack stands or even a block of firewood could have saved this mans life.

Same here, both for ease of getting them off and for safety.

even then im thinking of putting some bigger feet on the ones i have, they still look like they can fall over.

Thats tragic, and its a sad but harsh way to remember those saftey things. I know I cut corners sometimes!

That story doesn't 100% add up to me. If he could yell out to his flatmate then why didnt his flatmate jack the car up again ??? it would take 30 seconds max to rip the jack out and re-jack the car up ?

The story seems to indicate that the car wes left ontop of him until the fire brigade came? Maybe he panicked

Id say the jack failed and was unusable, or was stuck/crushed under the car

maybe jack was stuck too?

i also leave jack under with axle stands and if doing major work usually spear rims under tires

good keen man out doing a oil change at 10.30 at night.

just shows the importance of a couple of simple things like either ramps or axle stands to minimize that risk ah

The drive is on a slight lean & car rolled forward a little & off the jack.I assume the jack was either bent & or stuck under car.

I knew of this guy and the other silly thing is he used to be a mechanic so really should've known better.
Still beats me why anyone would be outside changing their oil at 10:30pm

A guy I knew did this, yanking on a bolt under the car, the jack collapsed sideways leaving the car on him, breaking his arm. He screamed out to his girl friend, she came outside, saw him under there and went back inside to watch tv. Neighbour got the car off him.

You cant rely on what people might do in an emergency.
