re-grooving simex
re-grooving simex
Hi all I've just brought some second hand 33 inch simex jungle trekkers and they have minimal tread in the center i was wondering what the likelihood of grooving them out to add a little to the center was? (off road use only)
How far could they be grooved into the casings without compromising to much... some one online said an inch so id be happy with 12mm-10mm ?
Any one done this before even with any tire that can give advice ?
Cheers Pete

Re: re-grooving simex
1 inch = 25.4 mm
I don't know the answer to your other life's mystery. But it does seem like the previous owner ran incorrect tyre pressure for that kind of wear.

Re: re-grooving simex
what kind of Grover did you use and did you get them rebalance after the Groving?
Re: re-grooving simex
You're worried about balancing? With Simexes? =

Re: re-grooving simex
not really but had to ask the question...
Re: re-grooving simex
angle grinder - works but a lot of smoke & hot sticky rubber.
Chain saw - easy and works but arm gets a bit tired.
Tyre groover - the one i used was worth a couple of hundie, only had a 1cm groove width - still a lot of work.
Grooving 16inch 285/80 continential ag tyres - heaps of layers tho - hit wires a couple of times but had no problems- do a heap of bush bashing with no probs. and they are free!!
