I'm all booked in.

Just awaiting confirmation that it is going ahead before I invite a mate along with his shiney ute. He told me he'd kick my arse if I didn't at least tell him when I was going on a trip!

If this trip needs organising give me all the contact details and I will get the ball rolling. Or at least try... I'm sure there are more competent people out there. I don't want to miss out though

Yes its still on......

if its wet and miserable then I may be wanting Mud Tyres and Rated towhooks mounted properly as it can get slippery in places.

After all the crap that came out over the woodwork after the redrocks trip I thought I'd better post this now

It is still my intention to hold a quick drivers briefing and to quickly check the towhooks, if you have unrated factory ones then the person checking them will make you aware that these are not safe and SUGGEST that these need to be changed . likewise if they don't look attached properly then this is a opportunity for these to be checked eg if they are glued to the bumper. If you do not have the proper hooks then its recommended you don't go into the deep bogs for a play (the tracks should be ok) as you will need recovering. the last thing we want are hooks snapping and then going flying into someones head an then we have the police and OSH to deal with...(well actually that would be me as I organised the trip and I am legally responsible for ensuring your safety where possible).

The last thing I want is to loose a few trucks over the steep bits or lots of people getting lost or someone loosing their head due to a flying hook/strop...how would you feel if if it was someone elses kids that your factory hook just went into.....

We can take this opportunity to do a little bit of training as well so those that want it put up your hands.

There...I've put it down in writing, if you don't like it get over it go and stay at home with the missus instead and see what jobs she gives you.....I'm not wearing my committee hat at the moment so it plain old diet jerry, I hope you understand my intentions for the quick briefing which will only be 3 or so mins and covers the basic convoy rules, keeping out of the vehicle danger zone during a recovery. etc .....

The hook checks are an opportunity to look at your hooks, get them checked (by Stinky hopefully  ) , so you are aware if they are safe or not and replace them for the next trip(s).

If you have any strong objections to this then I will cancel the trip and someone else can take over responsability for leading it.

Sounds fair enough to me. Those are the rules on the day, everyone can live with that, and lets have some fun!

I'll give my mate a call and recommend that he fit a hook or two and invite him along. I don't think he will be going too extreme anyway. I take it you are OK with me inviting someone else along Jerry?

I'll put my hand up for some training. I'm not quite sure what that means/involves, but I'm always keen to learn some new stuff.

Shinys are ok on this trip with factory hooks as long as they don't go in the deep bogs. feel free to invite away....if it was Rallywoods then hooks would be definatly required.

The intention is to make sure we are safe....and I am not actually asking a lot....a quick look at your truck, me waffling on for a bit....

The best form of training is watching "OTHER" people making mistakes.... :D

Most of the track are drivable by newbies.... The mud holes are off to the sides of main tracks... But still viewable from main tracks.

Great Area...

Sorry, But isn't that like "The blind leading the blind" :D

The best thing to do is take the newbies along and give advise/show then as required... eg. Show or tell them the best route/gear to use and how fast to go and when to put the foot down to make the most amount of noice for those watching, through a particular spot and explain to them why it's the best option, them let them go.
And when they or us get stuck, show them the best option for recovery.

Nothing beats "Training In The Field"

OK we have a suggested route, to plastic bay for morning tea, over to the next bay for a play in the bogs, down to cable bay for lunch (a couple of bogs on the way), up the creek after lunch...loads of optional bogs......

re training all I was thinking was the basics, going down hills properly, failed hill climbs, sidlings, look at how gear is stowed, danger zones of a recovery, joining strops, perhaps a highlift demo and show all the equipment.... etc, If someone wishes to host this then feel free, you can cover the drivers briefing and as well if you want....this just needs to cover basic safety and convoy stuff
(am working on an advanced training on a farm)

Stinky has offered to lead the drivers or do this I think.......

Thoughts?
