Hi Guys
Ive been keen to get a 70 series for a while and have been keeping an eye out of tm. I however know nothing about them. Ie are there any weak points, Dos and donts.
Any help from you guys would be awesome.

Landcruiser 70 series.
Re: Landcruiser 70 series.
Check for rust around the roofline and around the rear windows, a turbo one would be better if you can find one ie 13bt otherwise expect slow, check leaf springs (you may need new ones
70 series prado (KZJ78) and 90 Series Prado (KZJ95)

Re: Landcruiser 70 series.
rust as well under the bottom of B pillar and the rear section behind the back wheel
the coil sprung LCs run the smaller 8"diffs
the leave sprung LCs run the bigger 9.5" diffs (way stronger)
good vehicle as a base unit, super reliable straight off the shelf and become even better with a few mods,
dont listen to the doomsayers about the leave springs as opposed to coils as a good leave sprung truck is as good as coils and way more tuneable
oh i would be targeting the 6 cylinders if possible as they have a better low down grunt, good for climbing with.

Nice wagon and even better as he has owned it the the last 17 years
Check for rust and and look for excess wear around spring bushes and steering linkage. Althou these are easy fixes. At 300k the 3.4 is only just run in and as they are a working motor dont expect it to be a rocket.
Good buy if the rust ect is handleable

As a fan of these beautys I'd like to point out this ones particular good points..
* HD model ie "Heavy Duty" , diffs are 9.5 ie the strong ones..
* Manual gearbox - strong and reliable
* 3.4L 3B engine , about as reliable as reliable gets. Not a powerhouse Six but if you wanted more power a 13BT is a great bolt in upgrade. Given how factory you could make it look , cert might not even be needed but did I say that?
* Sold with a new WOF is a +
* Lastly, but by far the best point , its the right colour

Re: Landcruiser 70 series.
I really like 70s used to have a 1985 swb 3.4 (3b). Great truck but very underpowered (very reliable) and if I was to do it again id get a mid wheel base one with a 13bt. I've driven a swb 1hz (non turbo 4.2) got good power but hard to find. Swb not as nice to drive at 100kmph as a mwb or lwb. Also check for a leaking power steering box, mine had one when I got it ( didn't check), as said before, rust in gutters, guards, sagging rear barn doors from spare tire. Also shackle/leaf bushes, esp in older trucks. Cheers.
