Ute chopped Lexus v8 prado

Post by Mr Zuk »

So I bought this of a ore member (juz) so all the credit to him for building this neat little truck, I bought it manly as a hand 4x4 and to tow the boat but there's still a few things I'd like to to too it like bar work and winch, slightly lift it abit more etc. so fair I've just put some coppers on it and been using it

Only thing I would change is to move the back diff about 6" rearward, other than that it looks pretty choice! :D

It's only got 2inch lift and it's on 35s so I get a slight bit of rubbing so I might try some 3inch ones I have lying around. Yes I'd love to lengthen the wheel base a bit but I'll see how I get on

Update, awhile ago I took her for a swim
Image
All was dried out and working ago, then went in some cromly cvs and axels, beefed up trans and went to toms off-road for some bars and drop boxes

Still not happy with the ride or flex so hopefully will be going back to tom with some 80s diffs and extended wheel base

Neat truck. Agreed on the wheelbase.. All the 'big' shortys (cruiser/safari etc) look odd with flatdecks on tho I think. Unless its the custom offroad type tray..sounds like Tom might have a plan up his sleeve for that one :)

Looks great!

Good plan on the bigger diffs etc. I would have made mine longer but with the fuel tank in the way & wanting to keep the bodywork etc it got too hard - with the flatdeck it'd be heaps easier.

Don't even think about keeping the std 71 rear arm setup on the new diff - my basic 80 4 link+ panhard swap is a massive improvement, Tom no doubt has experience with other variations of 4 link conversions too.

Cheers

Me and Tom were talking about something with coils overs all round hydro bump stops, 4 link front with panhard and 3 or 4 link rear

Your build is what have me the idea clint! How does yours flex? Does it okay okay without lockers? Oh and is the gearing okay with the 4.1s?

Hi Mate, only had the one weekend in it so far, but on tracks I've done heaps before so a good place for a comparison, & I'm really liking it - better flex and better stability. The ride offroad is much nicer & it puts the power down well.

Gearing is tolerable but I now have a set of Mark's Adapters 55% reduction transfer case gears sitting in the shed waiting to go in  Didn't want to drop the high range too much so went for this rather than diff gears, will put the low range back the same as std on small tyres.

I has locker now 8) - Eaton electric in the back, only threw it in a couple of times but seems to do the job. Install was simple.

Cheers

Bit of a change in plans, have decided to put the money I had put aside into restore a old 1969 Hamilton jet boat so the 80s diffs will have to go on hold for awhile. Good news is I have some adjustable panhard rods on the way, have also fitted a runva 11xp winch and front e-locker
