fitting a turbo to a 5l engine

Post by hiluxscotty »

Hi, I have a 5l engine in my hilux and am wanting to turbo it. I have a spare 1kzt engine out of a custom hiace with a ct12b turbo, I have heard the ct12b's have boost at lower revs than the ct20 which is what I want(?) mainly what I was wanting to know is what exhaust and intake manifolds do I need to fit onto the 5l, to meet the ct12b, or should I just source a ct20. cheers help would be appreciated.

The manifolds are different between a 5L and 1KZ.
The turbo exhaust flange is also different between a 1KZ turbo and a 2LT turbo.
You need an exhaust manifold of a 2lt 2 or 2LTE to turbo your 5L, as well as oil feds and drains and water coolant lines. Thermostat housing from 2LT for the feeds for the water lines and having the water lines to tee into the factory heater hoses helps too

yeah i noticed the manifolds were different, as i was originally planning on selling the whole 1kz engine and just getting all the parts separately for the turbo conversion. so id really be better off buying the whole turbo setup off a 2l or 2lte instead of getting the manifold and using my ct12 turbo alone off that engine right?
