60 Series Body on an 80 series chassis

Post by a80crewza »

Wanting to know thoughts etc about putting a 60 series body on an 80 series chassis. I love the look of the 60 more than any other, but wanted the refinement and comfort of the 80, coils, 1hdt etc. Anybody ever heard of anyone doing this or is it a stupid idea

Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set.

Whats the deal with modifying or adding body mounts to the chassis in terms of certing etc.

It always pays to talk to a Certifier first as when I did my truck he really wanted the gussets coming from the new mount to the chassis to be the full height of the chassis.Welding to the chassis is not a problem.

If you have the time review this thread from start to finish. This famous build "Project X" has to be the ultimate build of a 60 body on an 80s frame. Absolutely no stone is left unturned, no detail missed and is a great pictorial.
(if you're in a rush jump to page 6 to see where you need to chop the 80s frame to suit the 60 body.)

But be warned. Page 32 of this long, long build will break your heart. :(
