making rev counter work?

i have a mid 90s hilux with a 1jzgte running a link g3 ecu. the guy who wired it up said that my tach wont work because its made to run off a coil not an ecu
but what iv heard is that something can be bridged to make it go?

or do i just find a v6 surf tach?

The G3 Link has a tacho output but its a low level one 0 to 12v.
And the current tacho you have from your old motor would have been coil triggered so is called a High level unit...
You need a converter...

The trick would be to grab the tacho from a diesel then wire the square wave low voltage signal from the 1jz ECU as the diesel used this type of signal from the injector pump.(not a high voltage spike from the petrol engine coil).

however in saying that, im not sure if it would read correctly as the tacho was originally used on a four cylinder and the new engine is a six cylinder.

we were going to try this with my LN56 hilux Rb30det combo but opted instead to install the entire dash from the nissan skyline aswell.(this bit also helps if you are mates with a car upholsterer so they can retrim the dash to fit the hilux cab

with the tacho out slide out the pin that holds the odometer reading digits in place and match them to the tacho reading on the petrol one then slide pin back in...some patience and some jewelers tools are best for this.

Possibly run a fed off the coil ? as there would/could be one and that would solve ya problem..

The issue is the old tacho to read accurately requires a feed from four of the six coils, in a revolution as the old engine used to send the signal from the coil lead that feed the dizzy.

Get any petrol efi surf dash cluster and fire it in. There is a pot on the back you can adjust to get it to support 4 6 or 8 cylinders. Wire link ecu output to this.

I can confirm this works also this needs to be done when running a wasted spark system from a 6 cylinder commodore on the RB or 1jz. it is to stop the feed back to the other coils when they are all connected
