Hi
Has anybody out there replaced their gq front seats for something different with a bit more support. I don't won't a full on race seat but a bucket that will drop in with not too much trouble.
I have a swb so won't a seat that flicks forward so passengers can get in the back.
Safari seats
Re: Safari seats
Subaru WRX seats go in with little modification, not sure about them tilting forward though.
Apparently VY commodore seats fit too but once again I dont think you would get any tilting ones.

Re: Safari seats
WRX seats man. Can't fit fatties past them easily but they tilt enough IMO.
Flyingbrick did a blow by blow thread on here on how to throw them in I think. Have a search =)

Re: Safari seats
Thanks guys will have a look into it. If any body knows where I could pick up some reasonably priced wrx seats from a 2 door let me know.

Heres the post from flyingbrick that Taz was elluding to, it appears to have lost its pictures though. http://www.offroadexpress.co.nz/Forums/ ... 25&t=18928
I've followed it, super super simple and the result is awesome. I run a slightly smaller steering wheel and clearance isn't an issue. A stock one would be a bit tighter.
As for getting the seats set up a watch on trademe for WRX seats. The pop up with some frequency. I paid $160 for a pair in almost mint condition. Just be aware that not all WRX seats fit. You need the ones with the flatter bottom and no electronics.
I've also seen Commodore, Falcon and Recaro seats in the front of GQ's, anything is possible with a bit of engineering
With regards to the legalitly of fitting aftermarket (non-factory) seats you need a LLV cert if you change the seat mounting points in the floor, the seatbelt mounts (either end), or the lower rails. (The WRX seats don't technically need a LLV, but I have seem them stated on one before, for a bit of future proofing should the rules change)

Further to what I already said, its the earlier WRX seats you want (cannot remember up to which version though) Ask the seller to post a photo of the base if you're unsure. Rails aren't required as you reuse the GQ ones.
