i was running a ford 9" with a full spool but after braking a few axels and have poor ground clearance i decided to put a shaved safari diff in the rear! after one outing i decided that Lsds are shit with 36"tyres and a 383 so after doing a little research i found a few guy that had wield up the lsds with good results! was really just trying to save 2g on an air locker or getting full spool turned up

C-clip axles? ie wheel falls off? They can be fun

mega jeep wrote:36"tyres and a 383

Jesus Christ what front end are you running?

You can modify the Nissan LSD to basically act like a complicated spool even when lifting a wheel.

Check R50 Finder/Terranos too as they have the same 33-spline 3rd you are looking for.

Nissan axle shafts aren't the strongest though, theres plenty of guys in Australia breaking GQ rear shafts with 35-37s and big engines. Although thats in heavy LWB Patrols.

You might look into a Toyota full-float rear end.

never lost a wheel was an strange housing and head don't recall any c clips. I'm running safari front diff open with fiddle brakes. modifying Nissan LSD i was thinking that i could shim it so tight that it would near lock it. do you no if that come out with open diff or they are all lsd?

personally Ive never seen a rear gq open diff but they did come out in the first model 87/88 gq had leaf springs, I do know the mq utes had an open diff H260 but still rear as hens teeth .
Try Niscars 136 Hutt Park Road Seaveiw 0800232233 they will have lsd diffs then maybe go see Brian Howett in Naenae get his suggestions on whether to shim hyd locker etc
WARNING:
Insanity has replaced reason in the modification of this vehicle

you can follow me, but its gunna hurt

My bad, was thinking of the 8.8 not the 9"

modifying Nissan LSD i was thinking that i could shim it so tight that it would near lock it.

If they are in good condition, hold on to some of the clutch packs from the old LSD. You can use them to shim out the new one and actually increase its breakaway instead of just preloading it.

I always thought LSDs were horsesh*t until slide Nathan on here told me to play around with the Nissan LSDs. Now I think they are really, really good :)

ive got a rear open diff its in bits though i got it from the wrecker to use the ring and pinion in my locked diff in my truck. the ring and pinion in this one will work but will be a little bit noisy wasnt bad when i took it out but.. would be good for a off road truck and it does not have a flange to bolt the drive shaft on to
