Terrano V6 Headers

Post by sako13 »

Hi all, anyone know where I can get some headers for a V6 Terrano?
Have found a place in Aussie and have search locally but just thought I ask before I get them offshore?
Also anyone know the current rules regarding the exit point of your exhaust pipe? I have a 2 door and have been told it can come out under passengers door so long as its in front of the tyre and cant burn anyone getting out?

There is a rule regarding a minimum distance behind the rearmost opening door or window. Ask a warrant inspector it should be in their book.

300mm behind the last opening of the passenger compartment...which basically means unless it's a long wheel base two door ute such as a hilux or two door coupe such as a monaro(i don't think the japs make a two door long enough in the body) it will have to dump out behind the rear wheels.

In saying that 10 odd years ago was a L200 double cab in northland with a GTO v6 that had twin stacks up behind the cab that was road legal. And a longreach falcon ute with a chrome stack around hamilton aswell.

Thanks guys, was just really wanting to see if I could shorten it up and get it to come out through the rocksliders.
May be easier to leave as is and just leave it out the back

I assume you mean near the rocksliders (that would be under the rear door, so probably can't get a wof with it) rather than though the rockslider pipework as that could get hot

No such ruling, the WOF guide is actually very vague;
(from http://vehicleinspection.nzta.govt.nz/v ... ust-system)

5. The exhaust system is so constructed that emitted heat or fumes are likely to harm vehicle occupants, eg the exhaust gases are not directed away from the perimeter of the vehicle’s passenger compartment

I have been told that cert rules are different to wof rules, but I have yet to read up on this.

Yes my bad. I didn't mean to actually come out through the sliders. But I have a 3 door Terrano (forgot to mention that! :? ) so have quite a bit of extra body panel behind the passengers door than the 5 doors do. Was wondering if I can sneak it out right behind the slider and before the wheel. This way would get a bit of protection from the end of the slider and also shorten the whole thing up by a good metre.
Reckon Ill go see my local certifier who also does my WOFs and see what he says.
Cheers

My 3-door rugger has a side exit exhaust on it, before I did it I went and asked an inspector at VTNZ about it, he basically said as long as it hasn't got any sharp/protruding edges they don't have an issue with it, have been through 2 WOF's since with no comments about the exhaust.

Yeah cheers- it does seem all good. Went and asked the inspector at the local VTNZ today and he was fine with it. So long as it exists within the boundries (verticle by ruler) of the truck with no sharp edges, and is more than 20cm away from the lower corner of the passenger door he had no issues. Showed him what I planned and he confirmed it would pass no worries. Although should have got that in writing as when I got home I searched and read a bit and cant see that "20cm" bit anywhere! :?
Its a hew weeks away anyway so may research some more.
