Drum Brakes self over adjusting

Post by dutchy »

Hi guys.

done a bit of research and didnt get to much joy.

my left rear drum brake on a kzn130 hilux surf is over adjusting.

I de adjust it so that it is almost free spinning (other side is adjusted correctly and stays to a good adjustment)
takes about 2 days and there is a very noticeable drag so I de adjust again. (VERY hard to turn to the wheel before I de adjust it)

does anyone know a solution?

cheers
chris

check the hand brake cable. it may be to tight on that side and possibly not fully retracting.

Strip the drum off and check that the adjuster tab is correctly aligned and also not worn or broken

cheers, I Will have a look at both suggested issues.

also should note, it was working perfect until i slightly adjusted the adjustment wheel (on both sides) and thats when it started.

Do the disk conversion now and save yourself the time and money :-)

Drums will always give you grief if you off road in mud and water.

I did a conversion on my LN130 with a set of brackets made by Deranged with a pair of MR2 calipers and modified Prado rotors.

If you search on here you should find plenty of info. Straight forward conversion but needed certing.

yeah did the shoes and cylinders on both sides for $100.
the next few days will tell if that really was the issue.
