Hi guys, has anyone converted steering box to idler arm? I have just done this but bolt hole don't quite line up is this common

Yeah couple of things needed to make it work.. you need to enlarge two of the bolt holes slightly, remove the guts of it so only the shaft is remaining and can turn freely, and then put a cover plate on it. Pitman arm puller is handy too

I got myself a second hand steering box (cheers passengerpete) and proceeded to turn it into an idler arm.
I removed the worm drive and piston.
Then removed the pitman arm, rotated it 180 degrees and refitted.
Made a cover plate and filled it with oil.


Very easy to do, only took about half an hour
Will fit it to the truck when the other steering bits arive
I managed to locate some enthusiasim to go out to work and pick up a die grinder to make the nessasary adjustments to my new idler. Turns out it was far easier than i thought, took about half an hour to to chew both holes out and flush off the casting.
