L200 4D56 thermostat question

Post by Marco Polo »

Hi Mitsi experts....

I decided to replace the thermostat in my L200 and the replacement looks nothing like what came out. Now, given the history of this vehicle this does not surprise me. Can anyone tell me if the proper thermostat has a rubber ring around it and no gasket, a rubber ring and gasket or just a gasket?

I have a 4D56 manual and the exploded diagram shows just a rubber ring.
Partmaster gave me a thermostat and gasket but no rubber ring. I installed it with no rubber ring, with the gasket and it leaks....HELP
How hard can it be?

The ones that have a rubber ring around the outside don't usually have a gasket, I would use the ring with a bit of gasket goo on the housing to be sure.

Tridon lists the same part for Pajero and L200 turbo. The tridon thermostat will not seat correctly in the housing and the guys at Partmaster had had this problem on several previous occasions with 4d56 applications. They gave me my money back and advised me to go genuine. So I order a genuine Mitsi one $68+gst trade!!! Then I got a call back from Partmaster saying the suppliers of another brand called back with a suggestion to use a different part number that is usually listed for Nissan primeras and various Mazdas
And hey presto, a perfect fit! I used the gasket and it seals just fine.
