Automatic transmission problems

Post by wildplumdx »

So my brother is having issues on his 1991 Pajero its having issues shifting sometimes and wont shift sometimes until you back off the throttle also tends to not engage 1st if on a slight hill, well seems to be more prone if the vehicle isn't level.

my mate reckons you can adjust the transmission for when it changes by adjusting the cable from the fuel pump to the trans or something is this true or do i have more serious matters on my hands ?

also i recently serviced the transmission new filter and fluid as the vehicle was off the road for a year. used oil pro synthetic multi vehicle formulation fluid ATF was what i was recommended

any ideas?

just to be clear, were the trans issues existing(possibly why it was parked up for a year) before you did the trans service?
what colour was the fluid you drained out?
How many km has the vehicle(and trans) done?

Depends on the transmission,
Full hydraulic the cable plays a major part in shift timing and pressure.

Cable pressure electronic shifting the cable has no input in to shift timing,

May have a faulty TPS

All guesses without physically looking at the vehicle

You might have one of the fully electronic shifting transmissions there, "super select" or something like that. If it is electronic there should be no cable to adjust.
Supposedly you have to use a specific oil for Mitsi transmissions, I don't and the shift is s little harsher but everything still works the same.
Check the fluid level in flat ground with the engine running, trans warm and in neutral or park.
If you leave it long enough does it eventually find 1st gear?
