LJ77 disc brake operated handbrake

Post by geckoadventure »

Been toying with it for a while.
The stock lj77 handbrake sucks . Drum Shoes wear out in the mud etc. Pain to fix and expensive.

Currently not had a handbrake for 5+ years

Im looking at fitting another pair of Toyota lc ii rear disc callipers then either one or two handbrakes which push a master cylinder no power assist to hydraulic lock the pads.

Not for overnight use just short quick usage.
Anyone else done this or interested?

If your local laws allow you can tap into the brake lines and use a hydraulic handbrake... Normally used in rally cars....Then you can use the factory calipers..

Saturday Arvo

With the assistance of the good rawang doctor fixed the leaking flange seal on the diff and looks like a rebuild coming a piece of metal came out oops.

Fixed the oil leak in the engine

Fixed the broken BOOST gauge the little air filter had split

Replaced the window washer bottle which had split

Replaced the bonnet spring

Replaced the left rear brake pads and checked the disc after it went red last weekend and checked the disc all fine.

Then we checked out the left and right handbrake for leaks now that its been in 4 weeks I have used them several times now and they work well quicker than using air locker at times. And in a recent comp where no difflocks allowed in our class the handbrake is silent LOL. We need to change the arms to be flat so more mods needed and they need a new frame to sit on it flexes a little.

Brake lines modified one line in from master line and two lines out. Others have used separate callipers here I retain factory calipers. If I have to after an inspection I will add another pair and put the factory config back.
