1 Kz te

Post by andytoomer »

Hi All

I have flagged the 1uz fe conversion idea. Am now looking at options, replace head with genuine toyota head? or replace engine?
When the current head quite I only knew because the belt were squealing with the water hitting them, radiator cap was popped on one side.
What I want to know is do you guys think, from what I have described, that the engine will have significant damage and a new head will just be money down the drain?.
cheers in advance

Only really going to be major damage if the waters been sitting in the bore for some time.

But look at it this way, heads gotta come off anyway so pull it off and have a nosey at the bores for water damage and pitting.
If all good spend 1.5k on new head, if not ok spend 1.5-2.5k on replacement motor.

Either way the heads gonna come off sooner or later and the longer you leave it on and sitting the more likely there will be bore damage so find a weekend, a box of beers and get cracking

EDIT: forgot to say, if you replace the head you will only get a warrenty on the head if you also replace the radiator so add this to your expenses too im afraid, or risk it with the old but they normally crack for a reason.
Im on 310,000kms on my original 1kz head only because my radiators been regularly checked and cleaned
