I wonder if anyone else has come across a similar problem to the one I'm having.
I had a rowdy tappet so I took the rocker cover off today and set about doing the clearances, and sure enough number 3 exhaust is very loose. Trouble is, to get it to 0.25mm clearance, I run out of thread to do up the lock nut. The valve is not sticky, the cam lobe looks fine, the roller follower looks and feels fine but the bloody adjuster screw seems too short. All the others were fine.
Does anyone know how long the screw is supposed to be? I'll give it a measure then and see if it's ok...

Took the rocker off today and the roller is not fine at all! Getting a second hand one tomorrow.

I've got one noisy tappet on cold starts that shuts up after a few seconds, I assumed it was hydraulic! I had better have the lid off and check mine

Sounds like a new motor now! Was ridiculously easy to do too, mine took an extra 30 seconds to remove the intercooler pipes before lifting off the rocker cover...

not hydraulic lifters on 4d56 diogenese might just need the tappet clearances checked or its could possibly be cracked just inspect them since your there adjusting etc

I had it all apart on Monday and there was nothing amiss. Cam and rollers good and the clearances were fine. All i can think of is it has a sticky valve stem, I'll keep using it till it gets worse
