Flashing Hub lock and 4WD lights

Post by oldblue »

Any one with a 70 series Landcruiser or Prado had this problem, only happens on approx. 2% of trucks.
Any ideas on what may cause this?.
Happens before hubs are converted and is still there after the conversion.

I know if you are driving too fast and try to engage the hubs the light will flash too warn you...
Other than that I don't recall any other reasons why...
There are no sensors to tell you the hubs are off or on... Its all timer based.

Did a search and one person thought maybe an earthing or grounding problem with the 4WD ECU.

I think its flashing as the ECU doesn't think the hubs are engaged... there is probably a relay in the 4wd control box that's not operating...a similar thing can happen with surfs.

Hey there Kevin.
We have just put some of your hubs onto a customers truck and have been trying to fix this very issue. I was talking to you this morning ;)

The auto sparky we use through work had a similar thing to fix after 1 of his customers fitted after market hubs to a cruiser.
They had to put a relay in the wiring to the hubs to trick the ECU into thinking the hubs were engaged.
Haven't had a chance to properly sort our customers truck yet as he couldn't leave it with us for long enough. Have rebooked him for us to get sorted though.

I assuming your talking about the electric hubs? If so maybe the ecu knows if the hubs are out of the circuit. My only experience with them has been when mechanics shove them back on and break the brushes.
If the ecu is detecting that they are not there a resistor across the connector for them might fool it.
