On-board air question
On-board air question
Hey guys,
I just picked up a compressor and a couple of 10lt air tanks for an onboard air setup in my LN106. Looking for ideas as to where people have installed the compressor and air tanks in their truck?
I'd like to save the tray space for actually carrying stuff, but if push comes to shove i'm thinking maybe a toolbox with the airtanks in it on the tray and mount the compressor somewhere in the engine bay (on the firewall maybe?)
Any advice or suggestions?
Regards,
Seth.

EDIT: Do you think I even need both the tanks? Would I be alright running just one?

.
Help me with the install and you can have one.

Chassis rail? Between chassis rails?
Thats the plan for the Safari's air tank anyway.

Re: On-board air question
Wellside or tray back, there is ample room under the tray on my LN106.
If you send one of the tanks my way I will take pics of the install

Looks real tight. I'm going to have a talk to Russel from Kenepuru Cars this weekend with any luck and see what he reakons.

Sounds like a sweet deal, should I chuck a box of beers in as well?

Good idea it could be a thirsty job

Is there enough room under the tray on your ute?

In terms of vertical height - yes. but i'm worried that horizontally - between the chassis rails and the exhaust there isn't.
One of my other questions was where do people generally mount the compressor itself? Under the tray with the tanks?
I thought about putting it in the cab, but I can't see how it'll fit without taking up leg room somewhere.

Re route the exhaust?
My exhaust comes out in front of the rear passengers wheel, I just had a look there is a heap of room in front of the spare tyre.

Re: On-board air question
I have a 25ltr tank in the rear 1/4 panel. It is on the inside and doesn't stick out into the tray area much at all (after making some room for it).
Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!
Re: On-board air question
What are you planning on using compressor for?
How much air (CFM) does compressor pump out?
What is the duty cycle of compressor?
Im guessing you only want to air tyres back up ...this being the case 1 tank be more more than adequate just depends how many tyres you plan to do & how fast you want to do it.
Im my set up I have 1 x 1 gallon tank , but my compressor puts of just over 6 CFM ..with this setup I can air back up my 33" tyres from 20 to 33 in about 25seconds.Duty cycle is 100%.
If you compressor is a bit gutless you wont get anywhere near this speed.

Just pumping up tyres at this stage.
I'll have to check the specs on the compressor, forgot to last night. I'm fairly sure it has quite abit of grunt at 100psi.
