FJ45 Rear Disc brake conversion

Post by Brattley »

Sorry, this has probably been done to death, but I would like some info on doing a rear disc brake conversion on my 1976 Fj45 Flatdeck.

What Discs do I use?
What calipers do you recommend, Subaru leone, Non turbo MR2 etc?
Caliper mounting plate, where do I get one? ...is a template available?

Do you recommend keeping the existing handbrake on the drive shaft or go to one on the rear calipers? who would make a cable to go from rear calipers to landcruiser?

Any other info?

Many thanks

if you want to retain the existing carden handbrake that would be unlikely to stop the truck rolling away on a flat surface :D you can use pretty much any calliper that fits with full pad contact on the rotor and doesn't fowl on the rim, if you want the handbrake on the rear wheels you'll have to use leone, mr2 or similar callipers, you have to do a bit of grinding on the inside of the leone brackets to get the calliper in a bit tighter to get full pad contact they usually hang over a few mm's if your using a standard cruiser/lux rotor, you'll probably need to put an inline adjustable proportioning valve in the circuit to get the front/rear biasis adjusted so the wheels pull up evenly without big skids :D are you semi or full floater rear end

Semi Floater.
So what rotors do you recommend that would be the best fit for the cruiser? 70 series, 80 series, v6 hilux?
