attn gurus 1kz fuel pump timing?

Post by j_tomo »

Hey guys n gals
just got the motor in the truck and it refuses to start

the pump is a hybrid, 1kz internals in a 2lt housing from a pump recon guru
its set up at 1mm of shaft stroke at tdc as per spec.

it has fuel to injectors, so the fuel stop circuits fine
engine ran fine before pump conversion

it will fire and run with a bit of brakeclean 4seconds max

I rotated the crank 90 degrees and the cam 180 then then put them both on the marks and the cam is half a belt tooth out, ive done this to see if the pumps firing on no4 tdc, but the marks don't line up

so before I pull the pump off, is it possible to have the fuel pump 360 out?
when the old pump was removed all marks lined up fine, fitted it all sweet as, pump is keyed to the timing gear, injector pully has a locator in the timing gear, camshaft is driven at 1:1 with the timing gear,

mind= blown

any ideas?
cheers

Where did you get a measurement of 1mm from?

When I did my manual pump conversion I started with the factory settings for the 1KZT ...
Which is 0.58 - 0.62 mm plunger stroke when you do the timing via the port in the Distribution head and depth gauge....

If you use 1mm I think it will be running too advanced....

In the end I have tuned mine by ear and trial and error....

Are you getting fuel out of injectors if you crack them and crank it?

Have you got the injector pipes running in the correct order off the back of the pump?

When I did mine it took a few turns on the starter and when it fired it was lumpy and rough....
Coughed and stalled a few times then ran like a dream......

yea got it all sorted, not sure how the pump timing was WAY off, might of bumped it while moving the don't around
started rough but smoothed out nicely, a glow timer should sort that out, VERY responsive but noisy compared to the efi system

just the throttle linkage to sort now, whos got a manual pump id like to see an example
thanks
