Napoleon Hill / Mt Greenland
Napoleon Hill / Mt Greenland
Am planning a trip in October to Napoleon Hill. Does anybody no the track status and contact numbers? Also looking at Mt Greenland, does anybody no the track status? We have Nissans, to with difflocks, 35's. Cheers
Re: Napoleon Hill / Mt Greenland
Did Mt Greenland 2 weeks ago. Left car park in Ross at 7.30am as we thought it would be a battle but were on summit at 9.30am and that included dealing to a minor electrical fire on an 80 and cutting 2 trees out of the way ;0)
That said it was drier than when we did it last feb. Even grey bogs were easily drivable. Even so its still a good drive and would be easy to go pear shaped if you pick the wrong line (which has happened to a couple of trucks this year).

Thanks Andy, good news that the track is good to go. Last time we did it in a thunder storm and ran into all sorts of trouble! Cheers Rick
Re: Napoleon Hill / Mt Greenland
We're planning a Club trip to Mt Greenland at the end of the month - staying 2 nights at the hut. So any feedback/suggestions for minor work or improvements would be welcome. We'll have time & (maybe) skills to do some work while we're there, but would be nice to know what tools & materials we need...

Hi Muddy,
We (SINDA) did a fairly major refurb of the hut back in feb. New roof, long-drop, fire wood store and cleared all the gorse around the hut. We went back earlier this month and gave the hut a coat of paint and a rain water tank and some new plumbing. Its looking pretty good now. We also did some work to clear the track from the hut down to the creek and got a couple of trucks down there and back up but its pretty steep. Take a walk down before committing in a truck!
There are a couple of mines upstream of where the track drops into the creek and the rest are all downstream including the old battery site. Downstream is pretty easy walking until you get to the top of a waterfall its gets a lot more difficult from there. You will already have passed one mine on the far side when you reach the waterfall (Old Willam Tell Crosscut). This is really the only one that is easy to find and get too but the entrance is partially blocked by a slip and is 2m or so above the river bed. The main mine (William Tell #1) is near the bottom of the waterfall on the true right. The battery site is beyond the next downstream bluff on the same side. It is really for the fit and surefooted but bloody interesting.
Some work on the gorse on the way up is probably pretty high on the list now. We cleared about a KM just above the grey bogs in feb but there is still a lot that could do with trimming.
Glad to hear you are planning to stay at the hut. Its the best way to enjoy the trip
