hi guys
been told that mitsi made a pajero ? early on that had a solid front diff on coil springs. is this correct? and the diff head favours the left hand side. is this correct? does anyone know the width of the diff? how many trailing arms? did they come with 4.1 ratio diff heads? or another one to bolt in?
I'm trying to find a diff for the front of a 185 surf without having to change to a earlier model transfer case.

First gen Pajero's came with ifs for sure. Can't say that there was never a solid axle version, but I've never seen one.
Considered a jeep front end? At least parts would be easy.
Or get someone to mod a hilux or safari front end such that it still uses factory parts but has a left side diff?

Having done a 185 axle swap and also a 90 Prado I would opt for the older Tcase. I have already popped a transfer case in the prado with ease. The fitment of and older transfer case is easy by comparison of the axle swap.
However, if you still choose to stick with the factory tcase then there are a couple of options
-using a Hilux/Cruiser diff cut the balls off the ends of the tubes and swap them over. Pretty big job to get it 100% but would work

Its also wider than a hilux axle and comes with a longer chromolly axle to suit. Always wanted to do this but the piss weak transfer case put me off.
Also 1 more thing, I ran a my old surf with the older tcase and lexus V8 no issues at all.

is there any difference between a LN130 & a VZN130 transfer case? stronger, ratios etc.
mines a VZN185, any difference fitting transfer versus fitting to a KZN185?
I have a LN130 transfer in the shed.

i know the mitsi jeeps has sold front and was leef sprung only ever seen 1 in nz but heaps on line

Yeah that may be a good point! Not sure on that 1 sorry. Tcases I have used have all been Ln130 as well.
Im looking forward to seeing the room you have available as the sump for the 1kz doesnt leave much. I was really againts doing a body lift in order to lift the motor so got a kzn130 sump and oil pickup and gave it a bit of a panel beat. Also had to use Hilux steering on the Prado diff so I could use a low pinion in the front for clearance. No where near as easy as on old 130 was to beam thats for sure. Hopefully the 3.4 v6 gives you some extra room.
