Rattly rear calipers GQ

Post by MrBeef »

Howsit,

I bought some aftermarket rear calipers for my GQ Safari, and they work absolutely awesome, whole new braking abilities.

However, they rattle around like a bastard on the top slide pins. Most annoying at 50-60km/h.
Ive tried packing with ngcl 3 grease (thick stuff).

My next train of thought is to get a bush that sits over the top bolt machined up with better tolerances! Only I dont know what material it needs to be made out of. At a guess something hard, with a bit of corrosion resistance!

Can anybody help me out here? Suggestions?

Are you absolutely sure it's the slider pin causing the rattle?
They are cheap to buy on Tme.

Yeah I've replicated the noise when it's parked having someone shake the vehicle then hold caliper firm and it stops

They're brand new calipers

Ok...and i'm assuming the wheel is still on tight when you do this test?

I had a similar rattle and the local brake outfit said slider pin, I changed the pin and still had the rattle.
My one was the rear disc wasn't being clamped tightly against the studs. Blimmin rattle annoyed me for months!

Oh yeah true, coz your nuts weren't tight enough?

It's only happened since new ones gone on. And never had the rear discs off. Tightened em up last night with rattle gun (prob too tight) but yeah still rattle

Nope...wheel nuts were good. With the wheel done up tight I could wiggle the disk rotor and make the exact same sound.
New rotor and easy fix.
