intercooler on a TD27?
intercooler on a TD27?
I want more power, so I think I want to run an intercooler on the TD27T in my '94 WD21 Terrano.
I have already put a big spring on the wastegate actuator - to hold it closed a bit more than stock, which made a modest increase in power.
Then I turned up the full load fuelling screw half a turn on the injection pump, which made a masive increase in power (and a slight increase in black smoke production - a full turn was way too much black smoke).
So I am now considering an intercooler. Not so much for power, but to keep the intake temps down, considering the increased power I am obviously producing.
So does anyone know what is the easiest way to fit one without having to cut any bodywork etc. I think some of the later terranos and mistral came with one stock, but I have never seen one and don't know where it is mounted etc.
So are there any recomendations?
Cheers

The mistral
the intercooler on the mistral wont fit your terrano very easy as the intake and the exaust system will have to be fitted to your terranowhich will mean a whole chit load of work.
My mistral is a non turbo versin and there is enough room between airfilter n headlight to fit a cooler out of a toymota enima n mount a electric fan on the top of it.
I have seen one in aussie mounted on the top of the motor unsure how they plumbed it but it had a fan on top and they used a air scoop offa pejro hope this helps out
Cheers

Don't know which is the easiest, never really liked the Terranos, just used to get bits for them! A mate of mine put a big 600x300x75 IC from Repco on the front of his. Along with 3" exhaust, Pod filter and 15psi did 3rd gear burnouts on 30x9.5s!!
Think from memory he's removed the AC to do it tho

My one is off a t*yota sprinter.....
When we did the smaller unit, we ran a 4" flexi from the front bumper up to the inner gaurd and holesawed a hole to get cool air to the intercooler....just be aware though this may not be strictly legal (cutting the inner gaurd could be considered affecting the frontal impact area....)

hi to all, i have a navara ute with the td27t, hilux beams front and rear, twin skyline std intys on front and moved my radiator so its now mounted on the underneath of the bonnet with a scoop on one side and a hole with elec fan behind, havent done any decent road tests with the twin intys but would love some info on how to wind up boost and where this magic screw on the pump is, as this is the reason i did the intys 1st. my ute still in project state but veiwable in the users pictures, 'project nissan to see how the intys are mounted,
good luck to all that are spending $$ on their toys just to drive them into biger deeper holes than b4..

Took a while to find your album http://www.offroadexpress.co.nz/modules.php?set_albumName=project-nissan&id=1HI_UTE&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php but got there in the end.
Love to see some pics of under the bonet if poss please.
Also can you supply more info on the SAS conversion in the front too?Why did you go for a Hilux rear axle?
Looks like you have great articulation, does it handle well on and off road?
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

hey, yeah sori about that am new here and ddnt no how to post a link,
will take sum pics of unda the bonnet 2morra 4 u, ive done a 50mm body lift too witch helps with the room under the bonnet, hmm the sas now that was intresting, with every1 telling me that i should just buy a hilux coz its easyer, just made me more detirmend,
with the front drive shaft coming off the passengers side of the transfer case, i had these options,
hilux box to match front beam, meaning either toyota engine or the $$ of a bell housing,
jeep, range rover front beam with left hand drop, meaning 5stud...
or sum how get a hilux to drop on the left for me, so i did that, involve striping all the drive line out of the beam, cuting the welds on the end of the tubes and turned it over the way i wanted it, then re-welding the ends, (with help from Geoff hampton engineering southbridge) the stud holes drilled out slightly on the diff head and the 2 top and 2 bottom studs made smaller, was to get the head in up the other way, but 1st i had to cut the circle with the bump for the crownwheel off and re-weld up the other way 2,
that was buy far the easyest,
i already had the hilux beam siting in the back temp springs and tacked so the old back springs went in the front till i got it traylerd to 4wd upgrades where mike got sum springs made, fited the shocks, 5speed ranchos in the back, 7speed in the front, and a peice of hilux chassis, along with a high steering kit,
a prado high pinion head in the front will help with front driveshaft angle too, went for a hilux rear as my std 1 was whining anyway and for the reason of cheaper lockers available, no lockrite favailable for nissan, and easyer to find parts also,
havent got brakes yet so cant help you with wot its like on the road, but im sure the adjustable shocks will help to stiffen up on the road,
hope this helps, feel free to ask anymore questions,
