KPL on different Trucks
KPL on different Trucks
Interested to see what sort of Ks per liter each is getting. We all talk about certain trucks being expensive to run etc. But if we all note down our rate will help us see a pattern over different vehicles.
Top up, reset the trip meter then run the tank low and fill up. Divide the kms currently reading on the trip meter by the amount of liters of fuel you just put in and you have your rough figure. Do it twice or more to get a closer average.
State the make, model and engine, petrol or diesel the Kpl, the type of running (mainly offroad, long distance on-road, short distance on-road etc), and any mods that will affect the consumption (larger tyres etc).

I have a 86 Surf with a 3Y (2 liter petrol).
Getting only 6.2 kpl (twice in a row, previously got 5.1
)
Doing mainly on road, both trial tanks had a long run (1½hrs each way) some off roading (not much due to over heating) and a few short trips to town.
Only running 30" A/Ts which sing moderately on road.

3L TD 1996 Surf - Non Intercooled
My 3L Turbo Diesel Surf used to get about 475km out of 55L (8.6km/L) and about 650km if open road cruising (12km/L). Not surprising considering it was doing 1800RPM at 100km/h.
;-p
somewhere between 2kpl and 11kpl im sure theres a middle ground there but not sure where. i try not to think about it too much

Last big trip I did that meant I was filling the Isuzu Bighorn, 2.8 TD Intercooled, was over Xmas and New Year, did a trip from Pohara (Golden Bay) back to CHCH Via Blenheim, towing a horse float full of camping gear and then a weeks running round town.
Running 31's and free wheeling hubs.
Filled up again to go to Hanmer the following weekend.
Recorded the Pohara trip at: 13.67Km's/ltre, or 7.31ltrs/100Km's, or 38.6 MPG.
Should have a another go at it without the horse float, but for normal running it's supposed to be more economical to not run a full tank, it does make it a bit hard to check figures if you don’t fill it though.

Ok, ok, a little off topic.....![]()
2001 factory dedicated LPG falconUsually 510ish Ks from 70 odd LTS around town, about 630 ish open road.
Have I mentioned before that I love LPG???
my old flatmate was a great fan of LPG he had a supercharged chev V8 in his holden commodore and he injected liquid gas into the intake manifold which dropped his intake temperature to a bout 20 degrees
he used to do it on a motor that he used in a jet boat and sometimes that had ice on the intake manifold it dropped the temperature that much

2000 Diesel Grand Vitara does 700k (to the reserve mark...so 750?) on 53L of diesel, book quotes 6.6L/100k Combined, 5.8 Extra Urban?? and 8.0 Urban....Co2 is listed as 190g/km. With OEM tyres (Dunlop Grandtreks) I was getting 750k to this easily....running Goodyear Wranglers now and its much happier on the road....all this is onroad.....(I don't take it offroad yet)
Rugger does 250-400k per 55L tank, with the dents in it its probably more like 47L, on and offroad mixed, running 31" tyres, on standard tyres it will do 500l onroad.

Crikey

And I thought Disco's were thirsty. Around town I get 5km per litre. On the open road with a light foot I can stretch it to 6.5km per litre.
This is with a 3.5 litre injected engine and 32" tyres
1992 Land Rover Discovery V8i, 5 speed, 12000lbs winch, Salisbury rear, 110 front, 65mm spring lift, dents in every panel, Rallywoods pinstriping.

il guess mine will be a little worse on 34'" tyres???
80 series tow bus towing a redneck ass vitara

Round town I seem to be getting around 18L per 100km's thats 5.5Km/litre . with a heavy right foot
Not bad considering I'm running a 3litre petrol, 35" tyres on a Prado that weighs in at 2.8 Tons with all my work gear in it, oh and my heavy right foot.
Compare that to the 1KZ:
1KZ cost 24c a Km when I last calculated fuel costs + RUC charges, that was in October 2005.
2JZ costs 25c a Km based on todays fuel prices, so not much difference.
it will be interesting to see what the 2JZ does on the open road.
The only snag is range, based on the figures above:
2JZ - 440KM's per tank
1KZ - never really worked it out, but over 550Km's

Got around 11-12l/100km (8.5-9 l/ km) on 31s. Not sure on the 33s. Thats both open rd (105-110kph) and round town (gentle acceleration)

Am impressed rowinz
My SWB 93 Prado gets between 5.6km/l (17.8l/100km's)and 7.8km/l (12.8l/100km's) depending on terrain, 4 or 2 wd and the mass of my right foot. I am running on 31 MT's and have the 1KZ-TE too. Perhaps I need to try harder

Guess thats the difference between 110/100 and 140/110 as normal speeds.
