Suzuki Escudo - Ground Clearance

Post by mumbles »

Newbie question here. I have a 1991 Suzuki Escudo 3 door, 1.6L. I am interested in getting some increased ground clearance, and have been told increasing tyre size is one of the best "bang for buck" methods that you can do to achieve this.

My question is what is the maximum rim size and or tyre size I can go to on a stock standard escudo, without problems with rubbing etc? I will be fitting AT tyres rather than muddies as the vehichle will spend most of its time on the road.

Off road driving with comprise mainly beaches with some mud tracks for access.

Any assistance appreciated.

You should be able to fit 30"s under the wee girl, but it won't help with clearence much, get lots of belly armour as you will spend much of you time on it.

I put 30's on my '94 5 door escudo and they rub with moderate articulation. :x If it will be the same with your older model i don't know but thought i would give the heads up. 8)

I put 30x9.5x15 RMT's on a standard 1990 vitara swb , it gave a useful amount more clearance under the wagon and only rubbed on the chassis at full lock. but yeah under body armour a good idea !

Thanks for the comments guys - it is appreciated. From your comments and what I have found on the net, it looks like I can go to something like 30 inch overall diameter and about 9 inch (225mm) width without to many concerns about rubbing. Will keep an eye out for some bridgestone duelers, Yoko scorpions or Kumho road ventures.
