runner board

Hi, I am thinking about making some runner boards to go down the side of my bj70 Landcruiser. I want to make them out of some rectangular hollow section weld some supports on them and then bolt them on to the chassis.

Do you think I should have them sticking out further than my body work? How does this effect my WOF? Anyone got any ideas? I would like to be able to get a high lift jack in there and be able to lift the truck up.

dont have them further out than your tyres
else you get no sidebite on your tyres
