2f engine oil grade?

Post by zebedee99 »

hi. might be a dumb question, but what engine oil grade should i be using??

am running a dual fuel set-p on a 2F in a 1974 FJ40. picked it up in christchurch 3 weeks ago; have just had a run around the south island and ran up from wellington to auckland yesterday. no problems, but seems to be getting through the oil very quickly. no obvious drips underneath, no dark smoke in the exhaust. engine is pretty clean all over. but still went through about 2 litres of 20w50 yesterday.....

thanks in advance

i run castrol magnatec in all of my engines, the 2f i had never used a drop of it, leaked a tiny bit but bugger all. may be burning it if there is no signs of a leak. 2 ltrs between welly and aucks is a bit of oil but over a long distance you wouldnt notice it burning it. possibly valve stem seals ? leave it idleing for about 5 - 10 minutes then give it a big rev,if lots of smoke then seals(possibly guides as well) are shot. if no smoke hold the revs up at about 2500rpm for a few minutes and keep a close eye on the exhaust,if smoke (you will need to watch closely)then rings are tired.

something to get you started anyway. does it run good tho ? if it does, just keep topping it up
If you already know everything, DON'T ask bloody questions!!
