where to go an auckland
hi there,
a few of us just got into a bit of 4wd'ing lately, we have 2 '89 suzuki vitaras, one with a 2" lift, both with decent tyres, basic recovery gear (hand winches, strops, shovels etc..) and a bit of common sense.
we have been spending a bit of time in riverhead forest lately, but seem to be at a loss for new terrain in the auckland region, even with the andy cockroft north island 4wd books.
does any one out there know of any places people like us can go to have fun?
thanks guys.

Hi i would suggest that you be very carefull going into Riverhead,1,its private property and you leave yourself open to a large fine if caught,2 the local clubs have been trying for quite some time to get back in there and it doesnt help our cause when people dissregard the private property signs and go in anyway,

we were just following the tracks in the books, but i see they are 9-10 years old now, might be out of date with regards to land access.
we didn't encounter any signs or locked gates though, but yeah, maybe not a good idea if it is private property. point taken monstr.
can you reccomend a club to join?

you will find all of it common sense...
rated hooks are essential, look at the incidents on ORE alone with factory hooks, as are first aid kits and fire extingishers and stuff. if you look at it in another way you are responsible for yourself out there and this includes not causing injury to others etc and being prepared.
Besides there is a great wealth of knowlledge in clubs not to metion a great bunch of people.

No, there still working on it.
Re: where to go an auckland
No not as yet ,There are sevral clubs based in Auckland all working at getting back in.At the moment it looks like progress is being made getting back into Woodhill in the near future,Riverhead doesnt look to hopefull ..Cheers
Re: where to go an auckland
Riverhead could be a little misconstrued... there are some public paper roads in this area. After all Riverhead is an area whose name is also shared with a private pine forest... very confusing. Its quite hard to end up in the private part "by accident"
There is hull road, alpine road, and a few others I can't remember. Best to avoid any that go off Peek road, and or any with gates. Access around Auckland is very limited, but some of these road can have there moments, great for a play
Nothing wrong with the club thing either, its not just about access but also the fun of meeting people as mad about 4wding as you are
