Hi all
Hope everyone got some good toys from santa!!!!!
Roll cages, Has anyone out there fitted one to their truck?, and if yes, how did you get on with the certification or WOF?
I plan to put a full cage into the Rangie as I'm looking at getting into my first comp (I know, about time I hear you say)
Cheers

Hi
Several year ago I was looking at building a wagon etc and was in contact with a cert man . He said if the cage is external it fell into the bull bar rules and thus not need certing . I was planning running a cage up though the body in front of the window then over the cab etc .
You would need to check this as he may have been wrong or the rules changed etc .
A semi external cage , ext on the upper half of the vehicle , would save the glass and door s from the worst damage but still be flush down the sides etc .
good luck
Chris

Internal or external you wil still need to meet the standards for the compitition your planing at entereing, this will state how big your feet on the bottom of you cage have to be, bracing, tude dia etc just ask for the rules
As for cert thats easy, it is a low level cert (visual inspection of the welds) so long as there is nothing to stop the doors working or someone getting you out if there is an accident, and dosn't effect the vehicles crumple zones or the working of airbags if fitted! ( read no excesive side impact bars or engine bay space framing etc) and ... you have to keep a log book with a min of 3 logged events a year (could be 18months...)
Still pay to get in touch with your local certifier
lets just say that I've found different certifiers read the rules differntly!
(if your reading this Tom I'm going to have to get a certified welder to go over all my welds on the chassi and syspension!
almost worth taking it down your way for a drive and certifying
)
