Rugger won't engage 4 wheel drive

Post by echothreezero »

Was working fine last time disengaged. Now won't engage H4 (electronic) or L4. Light doesn't even come on on the dash. Understand there is a vacuum line from the back of the alternator to the transfer case but that is where my knowledge ends.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot or solutions?

Cheers

Factory Service manuals

If you are on dial up I can post a CD to you with it on

Anyhew, check out the vacuum pipes that they are attached and don't leak, there are 2 vacuum solenoids beside the transfer case which engage and disengage the 4wd system, otherwise it will be the diaphram thingy in the transfer case....

the vacuum line is from these solenoids to the transfer case, there is wiring down to these, check all your fuses as well in case its not one of these

is it not going in or not going out?

Thanks Jerry, most helpful. We had a basic idea of how it worked, but looking at the actual diagram made it alot clearer.

Thanks again.

if the vacuum switches are screwed then these are just standard 12 toyota ones (off a 60-70 series)
