Blown cv

Post by Thrupp »

I just finished putting lockers in the back and front of my truck. I took it for a test drive and tried reversing up a hill backwards hard left lock dropping the clutch with my front wheels on the road and my back half up a hill and I blew my left cv. Is this common? I think it is about the worst situation I could put it in. Does anybody know where I could get some from?
Thanks.

that is THE worst possible thing you could do to it mate CV pop everytime

get some longfields and never have to worry about it ever again

suzola has some in his hot little hands ready to go for $1250 ? i think, axles and CV's 30 spline indestructible ones which are lifetime gaurantee so you will never have to buy a CV ever again  i got some for my truck 8)

Yeh I have heard it is easy to blow a cv with lockers at full lock but some things you just have to learn for yourself! It took me two minutes.

I am not sure if they are fine spline or not as I have never seen the other sort. How do I tell? the axle code on my chassis is K082. Its a short wheel base landcruiser 1985.

Are the longfields worth it? it is quite a lot of money.

Cheers.

wot the hell were you thinking. that was just asking for trouble. like Sig said, you were lucky to only break one thing.

dropping the clutch on the road is a recipe for disaster

How many Cv's have you blown in the past, and where did you have to fix them?
If you answered, more than 2, and in the middle of knarly trips, or on a riverbed, then you already know the answer to that!

Hi Mark,
As Wopass says I heve got some Longfields, but they are Hilux ones, the short side axle is the same as a 40 series but the long side is longer, have also got some 60 series comming, short side is longer than Hilux and long side is the same as Hilux.
If you wanted some for a 40 could possibly get some but would take about 6 to 8 weeks.
Also got some 27 spline CV's comming in about 6 to 8 weeks.
