hey all, just "upgraded' to a Daihatfoot from a V6 Zook

Just a quick post to introduce myself, I have just bought a 1994 Daihatsu Feroza 1.6 with rear LSD which im led to believe are quite rare?? i still own a 1998 V6 Vitara but have found I couldnt keep up with my Wifes 1.6 Escudo with front and rear LSD's :shock:

also out of the box the Daihatsu has quite a bit more ground clearance plus the removeable hardtop appeals to my mid life crisis,

took the beastie out the back of the farm today and had a play .. nothing too serous just a play in 6 inch deep mud as it's still running crappy road comerical tyres untill I can sell the zook and afford to buy a decent set of tyres.

I would like to "go up" a few inches and believe that the front torsion bars can be would up for an extra 65mm lift, whats the best (and cheapest) way to lift the rear end?? can I replace the shakles with longer ones or will it affect the on road handling?

My old man used to have one of those, always liked it for some reason.

Does that modle still have leaves in the rear?? If so throw some extended shackles under it and crank the front end to match.

If it has coils in the rear, try find/make coil spacers or buy some raised height coils. Should be around $250 for the coils. Alternatively, takesome measurements from your coils and try and match some from a wreckers??

Don't bother trying to get a difflock for them, noone makes them, if you want a snorkel Airflow make an off the shelf one.....look on TM etc

Mines got rear leaf springs .. am going to try and find a engineering firm up here that can make me up a set of 65mm extended one's this week.

As I work with PVC pipe a lot in my job (Im a data/phone/fiber optic installer) making a custom snork isnt going to be too much of a problem, i plan to use 65mm PVC Marley type pipe and 45 deg bends.

Jerry thanks for the info, as for a diff lock .. dont know if i really need one as I have a sneeking feeling that the LSD in mine has been shimmed up tight to "lock" both axels together as i was looking at video footage my wife took of me in the mud and going up steep hills .. I was getting equal wheelspin on both rear wheels at all times ??! I also did the one wheel on seal and one wheel in dirt and boot it trick ... got wheelspin on both!

would love to know what has been done as I am impressed with it's 4wd ability ... I even managed to snatch my wifes bellied (and I meen really bellied) Escudo out of some really deep ruts yesterday funnly enough the camera were noticably absent during the snatch :roll:

as for tyres for now I have a set of legal road tyres on a nice set of zook mags I will use "on the road" ive got my hands on a stock car racers tyre grover so will turn the horrible commerical tread (which is luckly almost new and about 8 mm deep into something a bit more usefull out on the back of the farm

how are ya meece4x4 what part of the country are you in, i own two daihatsu's ones an 1990 mod of yours and the others the same as the toyota blizard.

as for getting a bit more performance out of your wagon offroad crank the front T bar 65mm approx remove anti sway bar reset rear springs if the have sagged and get them to put in more of a bend. ive done the following and am able to run a set of 31" pirrelli scorpion muds with only a little scrubing on the front gards. only prob is that the big tyres suck the power on road.

with a set of tyres like that and that size you'll go further than some of the better set up trucks running the same size tyres

funny how thing go eh .. i was out at a mates place a couple of days ago and lo and behold sitting in his paddock was a rusted out toyota Dyna .. nothing exciting you may say .. true true but what got my interest was the fact that she was sitting on 30x9.5x15 Firestone Firehawk mud tyres with 90% tread on them! .. i made a casual comment that they would look good on the 'su next then was he said you can have em as long as you replace them with tyres to keep it mobile .... yionk within ten minutes I had the tyres off and in the back of the wagon ... took em down to the tyre shop today and got them transfered onto a spare set of Suzuki alloy mags i had picked up off trademe (cost $140 to transfer the tyres and fit tubes ... going to fit them tomorrow and take them for a spin to see how they go and post some more pics

dont know what your saying bullshit for try living in dunedin/central otago in winter.

sounds like you got yourself a good score there and u'll love it with the chunkier tyers u'll find that they will suck the limited power a little but know where near as bad as 31's but all that means is that its harder for you to loose traction lol :lol:

Hey 2roky havnt had a chance to spin them in anger yet

hopefully this weekend i'll get a chance ... my sons birthday tomorrow and he wants to take a couple of his mates 4wd'ing over on Baileys Beach on Sat.
Taking the 'Su back into the tyre shop tomorrow to get one of the wheels re balanced as she has a slight shimmy at 50 kph and again at 95 ..told it was caused by being slightly out of balance (and the tyre place that did my tyres are a bunch of pr*cks)

took ages on dail-up but downloaded ya video and watched it last night .. F**k the water eposode was soooo funny

guessin thats the white rocky your talkin about lol if ya watch closely near the end i nearly roll it were i hit the hill climb after coming through all the water holes.

that white rocky is looking a little different now the backs missing and has had a wall put in just behind the seats and by the end of sept should be sitting on a set of 33in mongrels.

i got the same prob with my 31's but the shaking starts at 85-95km and doesnt stop and thats due to most of the lead balancing wheights falling off. watch the mud tyres in the sand they dig very quickly and you end up stuck quick as. well ya do in the sand we got down here round dunners

should start having bets on how long your rear bumper will stay on for. had a mate rip his one off one day.
