Hey, dont know to much about it if its jumping out of gear, my gearbox does it to 5th gear in my landcruiser, although this is a different thing to a transfer case it may be a similar reason to it jumping out.
http://www.mechanicmatt.com says
"Transfer case noisy or jumps out of 4x4 low range
Transfer case not fully engaged. Stop the vehicle, shift into Neutral and then engage 4L.
Shift linkage loose, worn or binding. Tighten, repair or lubricate linkage as necessary.
Shift fork cracked, inserts worn or fork binding on the rail. Disassemble and repair as necessary."
I noticed that i have a bit of a whine or knock from my transfer case, if spun by hand it clicks about every quarter turn of the front drive shaft approximately, i read on a site that toyota transfer cases r almost bullet proof, but the idler shaft can wear resulting in noises, could this be my cause, is a transfer case rebuild very involved:)???lol
Cheers
Sam
