Yes, been there, alot of the Jackson can be driven, however to do the track does involve crossing the Jackson which often can be very daunting!
I can't just remember the name's of all the roads over there. Haven't done the arawata but I think i've been on a road near there, the one that leads to the Cascade River.

heading up arawata fishing then mayb up wiapara river then over to the matukituki saddle then down to wanaka...dependin
would b sweet to drive some of it depending, its all braided so think the trees will be back a fairway...?? but thats only looking at it from a map
