Think i need lift now

Post by Armourguard »

Just got the 40 back from getting tyres fitted  but it looks like i may need to lift :?

Any feedback on body lifts pros and cons and same with SOA would be appreciated :D

the back looks like it rubs on the sides ??

maybe re arch the back wheel guard so its like rounder, and do you want to have a lift for just the fact because u put bigger tyres on ? or is there another reason iswel ?

No it doesnt rub at present but thats just road running, abit worried i might stuff things (guards) when i start heading offroad and it starts to flex

SOA as you have almost everything you need and the standard soft flexy springs will not make it much more unstable than a spring lift.

Best thing is you don't end up with a harsh ride on new springs and have all your fillings fall out.

Go the SOA, cheap as chips and helps move any of the delicated bits above the diffs and axles, I would get a high steer kit as well though, just looks nice and tidy

Cheap as chips my ass. $1050 for a jafa high steer set up. You can fit 35's under a 40 by just cutting the guards. Then you dont have some idiotic sized lift. It wont fluff around on the roads either. Then you have to modify the spring perches, get new brake lines, new shocks, modify the driveshafts, cut and turn the front axle.

My vote is cut the guards. It also looks better when its low. Ever wonder why the trials guys have wide and low vehicles?

Turoa look at the springs they are the standard toyota ones or so close to flat it wont matter.

I agree if the truck had a spring lift lifting it further would make it unstable give drive line issues but in this case are only going up the height of the diff, you would still rub on compression on the inner guards even with a SOA and such a clean 40 cutting it may not be the owners first choice.

It also helps with enging sump clearance and a lot of other issues. Not to be done lightly it is not as simple as replacement springs but bang for buck you cant really beat it.

BTW That is a really clean 40

I voted, spring lift, but thought about it, and personally I would go for a body lift.
Although I do agree with turoa, about the wide low vehicle, I don't agree with cutting such a clean 40.
atleast with a body lift, its removable, you choose how much lift you want, and it won't cost the earth or rattle your fillings out.

And remember, all problems can be solved with difflcoks

I'm with Turoa! Cut the guards. Unless you're really fussy about keeping it nice & original (in which case you won't want a lift anyway), it's the cheapest & most effective way to fit bigger tyres. Scrubbing the inside of the guards will happen under articulation regardless of what lift you do. The only way to stop it is to widen the wheel track by spacers, rim offset, or 60 series rear end. If you lift it - you definitely want it wider or you'll scare yourself with how "tippy" it feels.

cut the guards keeps the truck center of gravity down, will help when climbing out of those nasty old rutts and stuff

Yeah i was thinking of cutting guards 8) but would anyone recomend moving rear axle back on the springs about 30mm :? just means redrilling springs

Isn't there a spring flip (end for end) that moves your diff back?? Niblik may have done it to his wagon??

spring flips doable, but ya want the military wrap to face the front still, so a spring or two may need drilling, then theres the driveshaft length...

easy though..
