handbrake mods to surf

Post by mudbugga »

what is the best way of changing or modifing the handbrake on a surf that has a 1uz fitted. The h/brake roller has to get removed off firewall to stop head hitting it. has anyone done something to recommend?

I haven't done it - but have considered retrofitting a ratchet one - was eyeing up the Isuzu one I have here as a possible replacement. The later surf rear drums are the modern cable ones rather than the old lever ones with a cable running between which would mean you could probably use the setup from an Isuzu relatively easily as they look similar.

Hardest part would be mounting the ratchet mechanism - maybe a slim one like Toyota Soarers have would fit to one side of the centre console?

Just ideas, but it might help...

The 3L V6 surf's already have the handbrake inside the cabin.

Common mod to relocate from the engine bay to inside the cabin and drill a small hole in the floor.

Thanks guys just found today that mechanism is inside so not a problem. Mate at work told me he had to modify his surf's h/brake but his an earlier model.
