Ive got me a new/old donor rangie for parts so I can get my other one back on the road.
The motor did startup withstart ya bastard when we were viewing it (after sitting for 2+ years), and after cleaning out the fuel and pumping the old stuff out (was red), and a quick tug it fired up. The stromberg carbs werent working very well and now only one of them is actually working. It pops and farts etc.
I pulled one out and degreased etc and its definitely not working now. I dont know what the hell is wrong with it.
But there is an sd1 motor sitting on a crate outside which has su carbs on it. What would be involved in swapping the carbs over? or should I just wait until im ready to bang the motor back into the road legal one and use the sd1 motor (but change the front cover because it has a mechanical fuel pump(bit strange?)).
they are both black under the rocker covers, the RR moreso than the sd1 motor. not sludge, but a little bit black.
su carb conversion
Have you checked the dash pot in the stromberg has oil ?
The strombies and SU's need the right grade of oil in the dashpot (very light weight) do a web search or down to the library.
The strombies are a technically more involved version of the su's but from experiance hold their tune better. I have not played with teh ones on the rover, but have owned/worked on old english shit in my time (we even put a 2" SU on a turbo 12A rotary !)
