Reasonably easy off-road trips around Dorkland

Post by forester »

Now I know all you hairy bastards from down south aren't happy unless you're driving neck deep in swollen rivers, but that sort of stuff tends to frighten the wife and kids! Not to mention that my old surf would probably kaak it in the worst possible place.....out of cellphone reception. And yes, it would be MY fault.

So where do you go with a 4x4 truck if you want to get back in time for Dinner?

I'm in Stillwater, close to Orewa, Auckland North Shore

I've already been up Muriwai couple of times, up 90 Mile Beach, South Head, etc. I habitually drive down dirt side roads, but they always end up at a cattle gate with some scowling cow cockie on the other side....

Any assistance appreciated

I've heard the motorway can be quite good, say between 8-9 am and 5-6 pm. Make sure you take extra fuel, cell phone, food, as you may be out there till after dinner

Do you belong to a club?? They generally cater for everyone and have access to a lot more places. I think there is a new one up your way - Rodney District or something?? Failing that try Shore 4 wheelers.

Nahhh! Like I said, don't wanna frighten the wife an kids! Anyway, I wade through the traffic in my little City Council bubble car.javascript:emoticon(':D')
Very Happy

Besides, it takes a Hard Bastard to cope with the rush hour....a lesser man might jump off the harbour bridge or somethin

And it's not the right sort of 4x4 for shopping in Remuera either. Need a Humvee in black chrome for that javascript:emoticon(':)')

Thanks Lilpig

I think that's likely to be the next step. Besides, I might need a tow.

Yea Forester I would say a club is the best way to go, and yes there is one on the go around Rodney. We meet on the second Wednesday of each month in Puhoi.

A club offers all sorts of trips and levels, so will always find something to suit.

If you are interested let me know and I'll send you some contact info. I live in Silverdale, and Cruiser_Beast lives in Orewa so we are all close.

Cheers Kent
